From the Office of Marketing and Communications at Georgia Southern:

"Georgia Southern University is closing the Statesboro campus and the Coastal Georgia Center on Friday, Sept. 2. All classes scheduled for Friday, Sept. 2, are canceled and only essential personnel should report to campus.

For students and University personnel planning to travel outside of the area for the weekend, you are encouraged to do so on Thursday, Sept. 1, and adhere to all local and state travel advisories. If you have a class scheduled for this evening and need to leave, your professors have been instructed to make appropriate accommodations.

For those staying on campus or in the area, you are encouraged to stay indoors and off of the roadways. Local emergency personnel will need use of the roadways and travel conditions tomorrow could be unpredictable. All students and personnel in Statesboro should continue to monitor the weather for all changes and please be advised that the National Weather Service may send out wireless alerts to cell phones in the watch and warning areas for severe weather and tornadoes. Always heed the instructions of local emergency officials and recommendations from the National Weather Service.

All home Georgia Southern Eagles athletic events will continue as scheduled. For updates on athletic events, please contact Bryan Johnston at bjohnston@georgiasouthern.edu or check GSEagles.com and @GSAthletics on Twitter for the latest updates.
