United States Marshals Service agents arrested a Statesboro man in Florida who was wanted on kidnapping and aggravated assault charges from two separate incidents.
Myron Eugene Johnson, wanted on warrants issued by the Statesboro Police Department in January as well as in 2017, was booked into the Bulloch County Jail Monday on eight counts of aggravated assault with a gun stemming from a Jan. 1 shooting incident at a James Street location, said Statesboro Police Capt. James Winskey.
Around 3:15 a.m. that morning, officers responded to reports of shots being fired.
“Upon arrival, officers determined that a physical altercation had occurred and that after the altercation, one of the subjects pulled out a handgun and fired it in the direction of several people at a residence,” he said.
While multiple shots were fired, no one was actually struck. Detectives also responded to assist with the investigation and the case was turned over to the Statesboro Police Criminal Investigations Division, he said.
Johnson, identified as the suspect who fired the shots, had fled the scene, but police issued warrants for his arrest for aggravated assault with a gun, as well as other charges. However, police had been seeking Johnson regarding an incident two years earlier, Winskey said.
“… Johnson was already wanted by the Statesboro Police Department for charges related to a reported kidnapping incident that occurred in June of 2017 during a domestic situation,” he said. After that incident, “Johnson was entered in to the Georgia and National Crime Information Centers as a wanted person.”
The US Marshals Fugitive Task Force apprehended Johnson in Sarasota, Fla. and transported him back to the Bulloch County Jail after he waved extradition for his pending charges. Johnson, whose last known local address was on Shuman Drive in Statesboro. Is being held without bond, charged with eight counts of aggravated assault with a gun; two counts of kidnapping; possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime; possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and felony probation violation.
