A fire in a control room at Statesboro's Lowe's Monday closed the store for the day. Calls to Lowes were redirected to the Lowe's store in Rincon, where a spokesman said the Statesboro store is expected to reopen Tuesday.

Statesboro Deputy Fire Chief Ronnie Shaw said firefighters responded around 9:15 a.m. Monday and found the store filled with smoke. The actual fire damage was minimal, burning a piece of equipment in the control room, but the heat from the blaze damaged several electrical "disconnects," he said. All power was shut off to the building, and replacement parts were shipped from Pennsylvania, he said.

Statesboro firefighters remained on the scene until around 12:30 p.m., and both Statesboro firefighters and the state fire marshal inspected the building Monday afternoon, The store is expected to reopen Tuesday, Shaw said.
