Drug raid puts four behind bars; cocaine, cash, Xanax seized

    A substantial amount of cocaine is off the streets and four offenders are behind bars after Statesboro Police Crime Suppression Unit officers raided a College Lane residence Saturday.
    Statesboro Police Chief Stan York said Melvin E. Young, Shannon L. Evans, Michael Cribbs and George Shipman III were arrested on various drug charges Saturday after officers executed a search warrant at Young's home.
    Statesboro Police Crime Suppression Unit officers were assisted by Bulloch County Sheriff's Emergency response Team members, he aid.
    Officers seized 92 bags of powder cocaine, seven Xanax pills and an undisclosed amount of cash, he said.
    Young, 38, College Lane, was charged with trafficking cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, and possession with intent to distribute a Schedule IV drug (Xanax).
    Evans, 31, West Jones Avenue, is charged with trafficking cocaine and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.
    Cribbs, 30, North Jackson Road, is charged with criminal attempt to purchase cocaine,  trafficking cocaine, and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.
    Shipman, 39, Eagle Village, is charged with trafficking cocaine and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.
    "All offenders were transported to the Statesboro Police Department for processing and are currently being held at the Bulloch County Jail awaiting further court action,"York said.
    The estimated street value of the cocaine and Xanax is around $3,000, he said.
