Want a Census job? Then apply right now

I saw some literature last week from the U.S. Census Bureau stating that the organization was actively hiring in our area. Today, I was able to speak with two people that are working for the Census Bureaus, but unfortunately, neither could speak officially for the organization.
I debated as to whether or not I should wait another week to write about available jobs and how to apply once I had spoken to someone from the Census office. Since there is a very narrow window of opportunity to get one of these jobs, and I think it is important right now that we share whatever information we have regarding job opportunities, I am going to go ahead and tell you what I have been able to find out.
It is my understanding that the census is hiring four major positions - census takers, clerks, courier clerks, and quality control. If you go to the following Web address - http://2010.census.gov/2010censusjobs/how-to-apply/ - you will see a link to an interactive map which gives the addresses and phone numbers of each census office in the state.
The one closest to us appears to be the Savannah office. What I found very interesting is that starting pay for Census takers for each office is listed on the page. Outside of the Atlanta area, Savannah has the highest starting salary rate at $13.00 per hour. I am told that mileage is also paid for those jobs that require travel.
The Web site also contains details about job qualifications, and what is expected. In addition, to get one of these temporary positions, you have to pass a test. The site has a practice test on it so that you will know what to expect.
If you are interested, the "How To Apply" section will walk you right through it. If you don't want to be a census taker necessarily, other job opportunities can be accessed through a link at the bottom of the "How To Apply" section.
I know that the Census Bureau is on a hiring "mission" right now so-to-speak. If you are interested, this is a very easy Web site to follow. Good luck!
So, until next Tuesday, I bid you au revoir.
