Prep Football signing day has dominated the Print, Radio, Television and Internet Media outlets for the past few days.
Now, just when one thinks they can totally focus on Prep Basketball for a while, the bounce ball regular season comes screeching to a halt. That can only mean one thing...Tournament Time Is Here!
Over the past few years, the State of Georgia has become a hot bed for prep basketball talent, and when the region and state tournaments get cranked up this time of the year, it is quite a sight to see in every classification from Class A through Class AAAAA. If one takes a look at statewide polls and rankings only, it's easy to pick the girls and boys teams that should capture titles in each classification. Many of the top-ranked teams have literally rolled over opponents in their respective region schedules, as well as adding impressive wins over national opponents in Holiday tournaments.
Heading into the final week of the regular season the top-ranked teams in GHSA boys action were: Milton in AAAAA, Miller Grove in AAAA, Columbia in AAA, South Atlanta in AA and Wilkinson County in Class A.
The top-ranked girls teams in the final week of regular season play were: Norcross in AAAAA, Chamblee in AAAA, Washington County in AAA, Kendrick in AA and Wesleyan in Class A.
It'll be interesting to see how many of those top-ranked teams in this week's poll, will still be there when the State basketball tournament is complete in early March.
