Inside Bulloch Business with Jan Moore - Optometrist Deal brings 'vision' to office

Every once in awhile, a "pun" opportunity presents itself, and most of the time, I really try not to succumb. However, this time, I can't help myself.
Local optometrist Horace Deal is a man of vision. Deal is building his dream office on Savannah Avenue in the former location of Citi Financial (corner of Savannah Avenue and Donaldson Street).
If you have passed by that building recently, then you will know what I am talking about as it concerns his "vision." When demolition of the old structure was completed, there were three walls of the original structure left standing, and new construction commenced from there. What a remarkable transformation it is becoming.
"I know that everyone was wondering why we kept the three walls, but they fit in with the construction plans, and were usable," Deal said. "I know the next question is going to come when we begin to brick the outside, and we have two different color bricks. We are going to paint over all of the brick, so the outside color will be a uniform throughout."
The building will be 3,800 square feet downstairs, with space for a large waiting area, five examination rooms, a large area for displaying frames, administrative offices, as well as a "sports vision" area.
"The design that we are using will allow people to walk through the office for their care without having to backtrack at all," he said. "It is a much better use of space, allowing us to see patients more efficiently, thus taking less of their time."
Deal has been operating his practice - Professional Eyecare of Statesboro - since 2000. He said he will close his current location on Lester Road when the new building is ready this April.
A native of Appling County, Deal said he grew up on a farm, and tries to practice what his father taught him. "My dad always told me that if I do right in my business dealings with people, that the business will take care of itself, and that is what I have always tried to do, and this building, I hope, reflects that," he said. "I want it to be as easy and as seamless as possible for people to receive their eye care."
This section of Savannah Avenue has a number of nice office buildings on it, and Deal's will be the latest commitment to the historic district of Statesboro. I think his vision will fit right in.
So, until next Tuesday, I bid you au revoir.
