A man is in jail after a female acquaintance told Bulloch County deputies that he had kidnapped her.

Patrol deputies responded Tuesday to the area of Sinkhole Road at Union Church Road and met with a 51-year-old woman who indicated that she had been kidnapped, according to a Bulloch County Sheriff's Office news release issued Wednesday.

The victim stated that she had been located at a home on Cherry Street near Statesboro with an acquaintance, Tracy Wigfall, 41, of New Castle Road near Register, the release says.

She further indicated that Wigfall had struck and choked her before placing a knife to her throat and demanding to be driven to New Castle Road, according to the release.

Investigator Walter Deal began working the case, and Wigfall was taken into custody.

He was transported to the Bulloch County Jail and charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault, possession of a knife during the commission of a crime and battery. He remains at the Bulloch County Jail pending further judicial hearings.
