A Brooklet area man remains under investigation after his arrest Sunday on rape and child molestation charges.
Richard Johnston, 48, of Frances Lane, may incur further charges in addition to rape and child molestation as the investigation into allegations continues, said Bulloch County Sheriff’s Capt. Todd Hutchens.
Early Sunday, deputies responded to a call at a Frances Lane residence near Brooklet from a relative of the 13-year-old female victim, he said. After questioning the victim and witnesses. Johnston was taken into custody and transported to the Bulloch County Jail.
Johnston is not related to the victim, but lived in the same household and was in a relationship with one of the victim’s relatives. The encounter was not consensual, Hutchens said.
Search warrants are being executed, including warrants to search Johnston’s cell phone, to determine whether any other crimes were committed, he said.
The victim was taken to the hospital and to the Teal House, a counseling and service agency for victims of sexual assault.
