A Bob Dylan tribute event takes place Saturday evening at Eagle Creek Brewery, beginning at 7PM, and proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Friends of the Statesboro-Bulloch Library, an association with the purpose of supporting and bettering the local library.

Sixteen-year-old musician Micahlan Boney, daughter of Mike and Karen Boney of Statesboro, is the organizer of the event.

“My daughter was touring and performing in West Virginia last year, and we happened upon a Bob Dylan tribute event,” said Karen Boney. “Micahlan said, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if we could do something like that in Statesboro?’”

The homeschooled youngster decided to make it happen.

“We have a fantastic line-up of Statesboro, St. Simons and Waycross musical friends,” said Micahlan of the evening. “I made sure to include some really talented people that I have had the pleasure to perform with.”

Favorite local artists taking part in the event include Dr. Michael Braz, Brandi Harvey, J. Allen Brown, Nathan Smith, Dylan Bragg, Jesse Brannen and Midlife Crisis, comprised of David Posner, Richard Flynn and Joseph Kropp. Artist Bunyan Morris will do a live painting during the concert.

Micahlan, who calls herself a “fiddlist,” plays the fiddle, mandolin, banjo and guitar, and is also a singer and composer. She will be the musician-at-large for the evening, playing as a supporting musician.

“As a songwriter, I’ve always liked Bob Dylan,” said Micahlan. Her mom said their family is a huge supporter of the local library and when Micahlan wanted to organize the event, the Friends of the Library was an easy choice for a beneficiary. Singer/songwriter legend Bob Dylan won a 2016 Nobel Literature prize.

Musicians will perform several songs each, with spoken words taken from Dylan speeches and quotes interspersed between performances.

Tickets are available online for $10at the site, with the link Tickets at the door the night of the event are $12, and tickets are limited as to seating capacity.

Sponsors for the event are DeLoach’s Music and Sound, Rick Curlin, Kevin C. Boyd, Pressley Lomas at New York Life Insurance and Mike Boney.
