SWAINSBORO — Authorities say five students have been arrested on gang-related charges after a school administrator was told there might be a gun on campus.

The Augusta Chronicle reports that talk of a gun on campus at Swainsboro High School Thursday led to a school lockdown. Authorities say no gun was found, but the students now face charges related to gang affiliation.

The Emanuel County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that a Swainsboro High administrator was told at 10 a.m. that a student might have a handgun on school property. Authorities say the student suspected of having the gun was isolated, and the school was placed on lockdown for about three hours while authorities searched for a weapon.
