Despite efforts to hide evidence, including a felony amount of marijuana and a handgun stashed in a toilet, five men were jailed Saturday after law enforcement paid them an unexpected visit, authorities said.
Statesboro-Bulloch County Crime Suppression Team members had to use a Taser on one man who was trying to destroy evidence of marijuana possession, Bulloch County Sheriff Lynn Anderson said in a news release issued Tuesday.
Officers arrested five men on drug charges after a drug complaint led them to a Georgia Avenue apartment, where they found marijuana "in plain view," the news release says.
In response to the drug complaint, deputies went to The Avenue at Southern, and when investigators spotted the marijuana, they also saw "several males running through the apartment, attempting to destroy evidence," according to the release. "One male grabbed a bag and ran to the back bedroom, refused to follow verbal commands and had to be subdued with a Taser."
A search warrant was secured after the occupants were detained, and a "felony amount of marijuana and a semiautomatic handgun" were found in the bag one suspect tried to hide, the release says.
Another semiautomatic handgun was found in a toilet in a bathroom, the sheriff's office says, and marijuana was also found in the common area of the apartment.
