4 killed in Swainsboro plane crash
1 also critical

Emanuel County officials said four people are dead and one is in critical condition following a plane crash Saturday at East Georgia Regional Airport in Swainsboro.

The accident happened about 2 p.m. Saturday when the aircraft, a Cessna 182A plane, went down after takeoff at the airport, officials said

“This is the worst crash, as far as fatalities, that I've seen as sheriff for 34 years in Emanuel County," said Sheriff J. Tyson Stephens.

During a press conference after the crash, Stephens said the victims did not live in the area and one may have lived overseas, so his office is having a hard time notifying family members of the tragedy.

According to a report in the Augusta Chronicle, Emanuel County Deputy Coroner Randy Love said the plane is owned by The Jumping Place Skydiving Center in Statesboro.
