Rick and Karen Bias of Columbus, Ga., are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Rachel Alena Bias of Columbus, Ga., to Brooks Steven Brown, son of Stevie and Cam Brown of Portal, Ga.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mrs. Joyce Bias and the late Mansfield Bias Sr. of Phenix City, Ala., and Mr. Gaylon Jowers Sr. and the late Peggy Jowers of Phenix City, Ala. Rachel is a 2002 graduate of Columbus High School. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Education, graduating magna cum laude, from the University of Georgia in 2006 and earned a Master's degree in Education in 2007 from the University of Georgia. She is currently employed by the Muscogee County School District.
The groom-elect is the grandson of Mrs. Juanita "Pete" Brown and the late Bill Brown of Portal, Ga., and the late Rudolph and Isabelle Rushing of Statesboro, Ga. Brooks is a 2003 graduate of Portal High School. He attended the University of Georgia, lettering in baseball for three years. He was selected in the first round of the 2006 MLB draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks and is currently employed with the Detroit Tigers Organization.
The couple will wed January 1, 2010, at Oakhurst Farm in West Point, Ga., with the reception to be held immediately after the ceremony.
