Gnehm celebrates 105th year

Beverly Gnehm is celebrating her 105th birthday today. She was born May 7, 1917, in Piedmont, Alabama. She grew up in Carrollton, Georgia, and moved to Albany after her marriage to Edward "Skip" Gnehm Sr. They raised three children, Skip Gnehm Jr. of Potomac, Maryland; Barbara Johnson (deceased) and Jane Dekle of Statesboro, while teaching school. Later, the family moved to Macon, where she was a guidance counselor until she retired. During retirement, Gnehm volunteered as a hospital Pink Lady for 27 years, taking baby pictures of newborns. She was also a senior adult coordinator at the First Baptist Church of Christ in Macon for many years. In 2008, Gnehm moved to Statesboro. She lives at Willow Pond Retirement Community, where she is the oldest resident. In addition to her three children, she can count seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
