Dynamic duo dances their way to the mirror balls
Dancing with the Statesboro Stars event brings in $130K

   Benefitting Safe Haven, a program of Citizens Against Violence Inc., this year's Dancing with the Statesboro Stars was a night to remember. The event was held at the Georgia Southern University Performing Arts Center on Oct. 5, with an encore performance on Oct. 8. The event raised more than $130,000.

Boro stars were paired with area dance professionals, and included Rey Rodriguez, paired with Melanie Lewis; Karen Lambert, paired with Jimmy McNeely; Scott Moore, paired with Gail McNeely; Krisha Craven-Phillips and Justin Norris; Delores Groomes and Chandler Dennard; Colin Strub and Katie Byers; Valerie Morton Powell and Bryan Realiza; Ashley Padgett and Stephanie Viness; Erica Sellers and Devon Thompson; Roger Wentz and Rebecca Collins; Jennifer Strosnider and Zack Stroup; and Sean Courtenay and Brandilyn Stroup.

The night was emceed by Alan Tyson and Natalie Hendrix. Judges included Miss Georgia  2017 Alyssa Beasley, Anthony Paderewski, Shazia Edmonds and Sam Carter. 

Taking home the coveted mirror ball trophies were Craven-Phillips and Norris. Community Choice winners, as top fundraisers, were Courtenay and Brandilyn Stroup.

A nonprofit that serves as the emergency safe house for adult and child victims of domestic violence, Safe Haven serves Bulloch, Candler, Effingham, Jenkins, Screven and Washington counties.
