SHS's Welle signs with MIT

Paul Welle (center), a senior at Statesboro High School, signed a letter of intent to run for the Masssachusetts Institute of Technology Wednesday on the campus of SHS. Welle ran track and cross country for the Blue Devils, piling up numerous awards and acheivements. This season he finished eighth in the state in cross country with a time of 16:42.33, finished sixth in Class AAAA in the 3200m after becoming region champion and finished as runner-up in the 1600m after claiming that event in the region championship as well. Welle was also a finalist in Wendy's High School Heisman contest and region champion in the 1600-relay and cross country in 2005. "MIT's a great school and I really was looking at the academics in places I was choosing from," said Welle. "MIT just had the best feel for me. I'm just excited about going to college."
