The Portal football team picked up their first win of the season Aug. 29 at home with an impressive 42-20 victory over Twiggs County.
The Panther offense was clicking and reeled off a couple of big runs. One of the reasons for the Panther’s success was the play of the Portal offensive line led by senior Reid Johnson. Johnson was the overall highest graded offensive lineman. He also averaged 38 yards punting, and on defense he had a strip sack and forced fumble, which led to a turnover.
“Reid plays multiple important roles on our team as a starting offensive lineman, starting punter, and a rotational defensive lineman,” head coach Jason McEachin said. “He had a great game on Friday and has shown much improvement in all of these areas. His play will be important to our success as the year continues.”
“The season started strong and we are going to continue to grow and get better as a team,” Johnson said. “We are really strong at running the ball and we have a lot of fast players on both sides of the ball that can get the job done.
“I am trying to continue to improve both as a lineman as well as being the punter.”
