Subway Spotlight: SEB's Devonte Tremble and Jasmine Roberts

Southeast Bulloch’s Devonte Tremble has seen more that his share of lows for his team.
Tremble burst onto the scene three seasons ago and spent his freshman and sophomore campaigns contributing for SEB squads that struggled along. Last season, Tremble was one of the key players for the Jackets, but some brutal region opponents and several close losses doomed Tremble and his teammates to endure a winless season.
Undaunted, Tremble is back for his final year at SEB and has already led the Jackets to a pair of wins in their first four games.
“We just had to take (last year) in stride,” said Tremble. “We put in a lot of work in the offseason and it’s already paid off a little bit. We have the potential to be a good team, but we can’t let a couple of wins get in the way of continuing to work hard.”
Tremble keyed a constant swarm of suffocating Yellow Jacket defense, setting the tone for many of his game-high 22 points in SEB’s 70-49 win over Islands on Tuesday.
The win was the Jackets’ first region victory since January of 2011 and its first region win as a Class AAA school.
Tremble and the Jackets look for another win Friday was they host Pierce County.

If you don’t pay close attention to Southeast Bulloch’s Jasmine Roberts and the Lady Yellow Jacket offense, you might just miss it.
Already an accomplished sprinter on the SEB track and field team, Roberts is helping to turn up the tempo on the basketball court. Now in her third year on the team – and with a seasoned group of teammates – Roberts and the Jackets are really hitting their stride.
“I think that we’re getting more comfortable with each game,” said Roberts. “When we’ve been able to get out and run, that’s probably my favorite part. When we run the fastbreak well, we can really score some points.”
Roberts was the night’s biggest star as she dropped 21 points in the Jackets’ win over Islands on Tuesday.
Last season, the Jackets came within two wins of making the state tournament. A move to Class AAA has made this season’s road even tougher, but Roberts is confident in her team.
“It’s going to be tough, but I think that all of us welcome the challenge,” said Roberts. “If we go out there and play our best in each game, I think that we’re a tough team to beat.”
