The Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets opened region play Friday against Savannah High and - just as has been the case the past few years - the Jackets put up a couple of football scores against the Blue Jackets, winning game one 18-0 before winning the second game by a 20-0 count.
“We did what I expected us to do today,” said SEB coach Brandon Peterson. “I appreciate those kids at Savannah High. They have great attitudes, and give great effort. They may not be the most talented baseball players, but they don’t quit, and are hopefully learning life lessons.”
The runs came early and often. In the first inning of game one, Dylan Ruarks got the scoring started with a two run single to right. That was followed by an RBI double to the fence in center by Tyler Deloach to make it 3-0. A bases loaded walk plated the fifth run. Chase Walker then hit a two run double to left, followed by a two run single to right by Toby Williams to make it 8-0.
The Jackets added two more runs on a Cole Mincey two run single to left and finished the scoring with a Ruarks RBI single to center for an 11-0 lead. Southeast scored all 11 runs before making their first out of the game.
On the mound, Tyler Deloach cruised through the first two innings, striking out all six batters he faced.
In the second, the Jackets plated seven more runs on singles by Walker and Blaize Minick, and a number of Savannah High errors.
Colby Marsh pitched the third and final inning for Southeast Bulloch striking out two, as the Yellow Jackets won by the run rule 18-0.
Game two was much the same as the opener.
The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first. Marsh scored on a Peyton Carr single to start the fun. Deloach later delivered a two-run double to center to make it 3-0 at the end of the first.
The floodgates opened in the second as Minick gave the Yellow Jackets a 5-0 lead with a two-run single to left. That was followed by back to back RBI singles from Carr and Deloach to make it 7-0. Walker followed that with a two-run single before Tyler Bailey added another two-run single for an 11-0 advantage.
On the mound, Minick threw two innings and struck out four. Williams relieved him, striking out two in one inning of work.
The Yellow Jackets put things away in the third, scoring eight more runs and winning by a final of 20-0. The Blue Jackets did not record a hit in either game.
“Our pitchers threw strikes, which was a positive,” Peterson said. “We got a chance to get some younger kids in the game and get some varsity action, and I thought they did well.”
Southeast Bulloch improves to 4-3 on the season and will continue region play at Jenkins Tuesday at 4 p.m.
