    The Statesboro Lady Blue Devils (3-2, 2-1 Region 2B-AAAA) defeated South Effingham 3-0 Tuesday in a region match.
    Taylor Sarratt scored a pair of goals and Tory Thompson also added a score.
    Makayla Patterson preserved the shutout in goal behind a strong defensive effort.

Screven stays perfect
    LOUISVILLE — The Screven County Lady Gamecocks (4-0, 4-0 Region 3-AA) knocked off Jefferson County 4-0 to stay perfect on the season on the road Tuesday.
    Keeper Jessica Markovcic recorded a shutout for the fourth-straight game.
    Goals were scored by Hannah Jones and Madyson Torres after a 0-0 tie at halftime.

Treutlen tops Panthers
    SOPERTON — The Portal Panthers (1-4) fell 15-0 at the hands of the Treutlen Vikings Tuesday.
    The Panthers host Claxton today at 5 p.m.

Eagles finish Hayt in 13th
    PONTE VEDRA, Fla. — Steady play by Georgia Southern's Logan Blondell in windy conditions at the par-72, 6,942-yard Sawgrass Country Club allowed the senior to finish tied for 31st at the John Hayt Invitational Tuesday.
    His play, coupled with improved rounds from teammates in the five-man lineup  helped GSU maintain its 13th position on the final day.              Arkansas, which started seven strokes back from Auburn in second place, posted a final round 5-under 283 to finish two strokes ahead of the Tigers for first place (285-299-283=867).
    Florida’s Phillip Choi, tied for first place coming into the final round, pulled away from the pack with a 2-under 70 to win individual medalist honors.
    Georgia Southern has one more tournament before hosting in the Schenkel Invitational at Forest Heights Country Club.
    The Eagles will travel to the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate March 7-8 at the Palmetto Golf Club in Akien, S.C.

SHS to host GACA meet Firday
    Statesboro will host the 2011 GACA Area Weight Meet Friday at 4:30 p.m.
    Admission is $3.
    Participating schools are Statesboro, Effingham County, Metter, Screven COunty, Vidalia, South Effingham, Long County and Portal.

DuBose named All-SoCon freshman
    SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Georgia Southern Lady Eagles guard MiMi Dubose was named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team by both the media and the coaches. The redshirt-freshman is third on the team in scoring with 10.2 points per game.
    DuBose helped the Lady Eagles set a program record for made 3-pointers in a season and was second on the team with 40. She scored 20 or more points in back-to-back wins against Appalachian State and Western Carolina.         The freshman guard helped Georgia Southern defeat the Mountaineers with a career-best 25 points in the 73-65 win on Jan. 10.
    DuBose missed nine games towards the end of the season, but returned in the finale and will look to make a splash in the Southern Conference Tournament. The Lady Eagles open the SoCon Tournament against Western Carolina on Thursday at 1 p.m.
