Local Roundup: SHS volleyball bows out of playoffs
Statesboro

The dream season of the Statesboro girls volleyball season came to an end Wednesday night in Forsyth as the Lady Blue Devils dropped a 2-1 decision to Mary Persons in the first round of the GHSA state playoffs.
In just their second season of competition, the Devils surpassed all expectations, but couldn’t pull off the first round upset.
Needing to win one more set to advance to the second round, Statesboro was unable to hold on to late leads in each of the last two sets.
“That’s just a little inexperience,” said SHS coach Bob Massee. “But that’s nothing against our girls. They gave it their all. For as far as we’ve come this season, I couldn’t be more proud.”
Despite being a newcomer to the sport, Statesboro seems like it will make plenty of waves in the near future. The Devils have just one senior graduating from this season’s team, giving them much more depth and experience to look forward to in their third season.
