Bulloch Academy senior Bill Sheppard (pictured, right) was named one of the 12 best senior basketball players in the Georgia Independent School Association this season by his selection to the GISA All-Star Team last week. Sheppard and his Class AAA teammates from around the state lost to the SCISA (South Carolina Independent School Association) All-Stars 100-92 at Tattnall Square Academy in Macon this past Saturday. The BA senior scored four points.
Lady Panthers win, boys take 3rd
METTER — The Portal Lady Panthers shot a combined 103 on Tuesday to win a three-team golf match against Metter and Tattnall County at Willow Lake Golf Club in Metter.
Faith Reddick shot a 46 and Caitlyn Girardeau shot a 56.
Led by Jordan Aubrey and Jameson Mikell, the Portal boys finished third at the tournament.
SEB games postponed
BROOKLET — Southeast Bulloch's baseball games against Savannah High, originally scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed due to in climate weather.
The games will be played on Thursday, with the junior-varsity beginning at 4:30 p.m.
Southeast Bulloch's scheduled soccer games against Pierce county on Tuesday were also postponed, and will be played today.
The junior-varsity match against Statesboro has been cancelled.
Eagles earn mid-major ranking
Georgia Southern swimming and diving has been ranked No. 68 on the Endless Pools/CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major Rankings.
The Mid-Major rankings provide an objective point system to compare non-BCS programs and those that provide fewer than one-half of the allowable scholarships under the NCAA rules.
"This is a significant recognition for our program,” GSU coach Nathan Kellogg said. “It is a direct result of the commitment and work our team has put in on a daily basis. I am excited for the direction we are headed."
The Eagles landed 68th with 920.22 points, nestled right between Colorado State and Fresno State. In the fall, GSU was ranked 120th. San Diego State claims the #1 spot with 971.33 points.
The Eagles ended their 2013-14 season with a third place finish at the CCSA Championships. Eleven school records were broken and senior Kristen Bates clinched a NCAA B-cut time in the 100 Breaststroke event.
