Local Roundup: SEBMS advances to championship

    The Southeast Bulloch Middle School Yellow Jackets advanced to the region championship game Friday with a 13-6 win over South Effingham in the semifinals.
    Bryce Harnage pitched a complete game while striking out three. Chris Scott went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, Harnage drove in a run and went 2-for-3, Austin Wise drove in a pair of runs and Cole Mincey finished 2-for-4.
    The region championship will take place next week. The location, opponent and date has yet to be determined.

Screven takes down Calvary
    SYLVANIA — The Screven County boys and girls tennis teams each defeated Calvary Day 4-1 Friday at home.
    The Lady Gamecocks (13-4) got wins from Mallorie Boswell (6-1, 6-0), Jancey Durrence (6-0, 6-2), doubles team Pamela Wooten and Keri Lane (6-0, 6-0) and doubles team Haley Jackson and Victoria Winters (6-2, 6-0).
    The boys (9-8) got wins from Ryan Bazemore (7-6 [1], 6-0), Raj Patel (6-1, 6-0), doubles team Daniel Weaver and Zachary Weaver (6-1, 7-5) and doubles team Clay Kirkland and Clay Koch (6-0, 6-1).
    The Gamecocks return to action when they travel to Mill Creek to face Statesboro on Monday.

Eagles top Samford, WCU
    Georgia Southern women's tennis finished up the regular season on a high note as it defeated SoCon rival Western Carolina 6-1 on Friday afternoon on the road. The men defeated Samford.
