BROOKLET — The Southeast Bulloch Lady Yellow Jackets got back in the win column after a seven-game winning streak was snapped on Wednesday, pounding Islands 8-0 Thursday at home.
The Jackets (10-4, 6-0 Region 1-AAA) got a complete goame shutout from Madison Fields, who struck out seven.
Emily Barnard struck the biggest blow, driving in three with an inside-the-park home run.
Morgan Joyner (3-for-4) added a two-run triple and Mary GBrace Manahan (2-for-4) drove in a run for the Jackets.
SEB is back in action Tuesday at Toombs County at 5 p.m.
Portal MS notches softball win
PORTAL — The Lady Panthers on Portal’s middle school softball team ended a long drought Tues-day, notching a 15-9 victory over Collins for its first win in over a year.
Colby Motes went the distance on the mound for Portal, striking out seven.
The Panthers were on the brink of another loss, but a nine-run, seven-hit outburst in the sixth inning allowed them to finally break through.
Sloan Aubrey led the offensive charge, going 4-for-5 with a double and four runs scored.
Brianna Aldridge scored twice and recorded three hits and three steals. Madison Williams added a pair of hits and Motes helped her cause at the plate with two hits of her own.
Portal’s varsity squad wasn’t quite as fortunate, dropping a 9-6 decision to ECI Tuesday evening.
Keri Carter struck out seven Lady Bulldogs, but seven walks and nine hits allowed ECI to rally.
