    The Statesboro-Bulloch county Parks and Recreation Department recently wrapped up soccer action for the week.
    In the under 10 league, The Revolution edged the Galaxy 2-1, SCS Battery shut out the Attack 2-0 and Pizza Mill Express defeated the Your Pie Blast 3-1.
    In the U-12 league, the Lynx beat the Rhinos 2-1.

    It was a busy week in Statesboro-Bulloch County Parks and Recreations Department baseball and softball.
    In the midget baseball league, the Statesboro Floor Covering Nationals beat the Kiwanis Club of statesboro Pirates 6-3, the Oates Plumbing Royals defeated the Statesboro Appliance Center Tigers 7-6, the Doctor's Hospital of Tattnall Cubs and the Bulloch Well Drilling Phillies played to a scoreless tie and the BestRate Auto Insurance Orioles beat the Clubhouse Giants 7-1.
    In the midget softball league, the Pawn City Cubs beat the AmeriGas Angels 11-2, the Splash in the Boro Diamondbacks and the Bulloch Pediatrics Group Rays played to a 4-4 tie and the Blue Jays blanked the Kiwanis Club of Statesboro Braves, 6-0.
    In the minor league, the Heritage Investment Center Yankees pulled out a win against the Thigpen, Lanier, Westerfield and Deal Giants 3-2. The Farmers and Merchants Bank Indians tied the Chick-fil-A Cardinals 5-5.
    The Blanchard Equipment Mariners beat the Statesboro
Children's Dental Center Mets 16-4. The Sigma Chi Orioles won against the Clubhouse Nationals 13-9.
    The Doctor's Hospital of Tattnall Braves beat the Sheppard Lumber Cubs 15-3. The Kiwanis Club of Statesboro Phillies won against the Reel Masonry A's 18-10 and The Splash in the Boro Dodgers beat the Ogeechee Lodge Reds 9-4.
    In the Junior Boys league, Jenkins County beat the Sigma
Nu Astros 6-2 and 11-0.

Burnett receives SoCon honor

    SPARTANBURG, S.C. —Georgia Southern Softball's Kelly Burnett has been named Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for May 4th, as announced today by the league office.
    The Boynton Beach, Fla., native graduated in December with her degree in Early Childhood Education and hit .714 last weekend against Chattanooga.
    Burnett was 5-for-7 in the three-game series, which included her second home run of the season in the final game of the regular season on Sunday, May 1. She also scored two runs and posted a 1.143 slugging percentage.
    In the classroom, Burnett owns a 3.67 GPA and began working on her Master's Degree in Education this spring.

tickets on sale
    Tickets for Georgia Southern’s November 19 football game at Alabama will be available for purchase by season ticket holders and Eagle Fund donors through the close of business on June 17. As in previous seasons with road games that require priority ticket orders, Priority Points rankings will determine the number of tickets each season ticket holder and donor may purchase. Letters and order forms were mailed from the Georgia Southern Athletic Foundation Monday.
 The Alabama Athletics Department requested that all unsold visitor tickets be returned to its ticket office in June.
    Georgia Southern and East Georgia College students with valid IDs will be able to purchase tickets at the beginning of the Fall 2011 semester.

BA ends season with split
    The Bulloch Academy soccer regular season came to an end Wednesday with a split at Robert Toombs Christian Academy.
    The Lady Gators won 2-1 with goals by Claire Hiller and Ashley Burke.
    The boys lost 2-1. The Gators goal was scored on a penalty kick by Zach Abell.
    The region tournament begins Saturday at Mount de Sales.
