RICHMOND HILL — Langston Chapel Middle School had to knock off the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds at the Coastal Empire Region tournament, and the No. 4 seed Blue Devils did it, winning the region title for the second year in a row.
The Blue Devils beat Burke County Middle School, 39-34, in the championship to take the title on Saturday.
In a defensive battle, LCMS players Devontae McCullough, Keywan Lawson and Malik Smith led the way.
Last Friday, LCMS defeated William James Middle School in the semifinals to advance.
They trailed by as many as seven points in the fourth quarter, but led offensively by Cameron Harvey, Aaron Houston and Marcus Kirkland, came back for a 40-38 win.
Panthers close season on road
IRWINTON — The Portal Panthers' regular season came to an end Friday as they fell on the road to top-ranked Wilkinson County in non-region action.
Treston White (12 points) and Stacy Morgan (11) led the way for Portal.
The Panthers begin play as the No. 2 seed in the Region 3A-A tournament Thursday in Millen.
CHS girls close slate at Tattnall
REIDSVILLE — The Claxton Lady Tigers (18-7) closed out the regular season on the road Friday, falling 68-45 at Tattnall County.
Tattnall's Kierria Mcdonald led all scorers with 22 points.
Claxton was led by Jazmine Price, who scored 19 points, and Mariah Morgan who finished with 10.
Claxton, which finished 8-2 in Region 3A-A play, earned the No. 2 seed in the region tournament, which begins on Monday. The Tigers will receive a first-round bye, and will play Thursday.
SEB girls fall to Beach
SAVANNAH — The Beach Bulldogs beat the Southeast Bulloch Lady Yellow Jackets, 49-40, Friday in Savannah.
SEB was paced by Katlin Jones, who scored 15 points.
The Jackets close out the regular season today on Senior Night at home against Appling County.
