Local Roundup: Blue Devils fall from state playoffs

    Statesboro’s baseball season came to an abrupt end Wednesday afternoon in Cordele as Crisp County swept the Blue Devils in the second round of the Class AAAA state playoffs.
    The Cougars defeated SHS ace Tyler Brown 12-2 in the first game, then finished off the Devils by getting to Jordan Finch in a 13-1 win.
    “Obviously we’re disappointed, but we’re also proud of our guys,” SHS coach Jim Simmons said. “I don’t think that we played our best game, but we did give it our best effort.”

Portal hosts Blue-White game
    PORTAL — Portal’s football team will conclude two weeks of spring practice as they hold a Blue-White scrimmage Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $3.
    There will also be a cake raffle and kids aged 6-12 will be invited to participate in a punt, pass and kick competition.

GSU season ticket deadline nears
    The deadline to renew Georgia Southern football season tickets is May 15.
    The Georgia Southern Athletic Ticket Office is open Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m
    New season ticket sales will begin on May 25. For those who have not renewed but wish to keep their seats for the upcoming season, renewal is due by next Wednesday.

SEB hoops camp
    BROOKLET — Southeast Bulloch Youth Boys and Girls basketball camp for rising third through eighth graders will take place Monday, June 3 through Wednesday, June 5. The camp begins daily at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at 12:30 p.m.
    The Camp cost is $40. All campers will be provided with a t-shirt and a daily snacks. For further information about registration call John Page at (912) 842-8440 or (912) 823-9378.

GSU baseball camps
    The Georgia Southern Baseball Youth Camps are schedule for June 17-20 and July 15-18.
    Each camp will offer instruction in all aspects of the game and each player will participate in a game each day.
    The camp is offered to middle school players. It will run from July 7 until July 10. The camp will feature instruction on defense, hitting, pitching and other fundamental skills.         Each player will also participate in a game each day. All Georgia Southern sports camps are open to any and all applicants and are limited only by the number of slots available per camp and the age, grade level and/or gender of the participant.
