Burke, Morgan lead Lady Gators

    Bulloch Academy freshman Ashley Burke and senior Emily Morgan finished one-two to lead the Lady Gators to a team victory in their first cross country meet of the season.
    Burke finished the newly designed and freshly-manicured, 3.2-mile course in 23:58 while Morgan clocked a 24:41 in the 21-runner field. Senior Maddie Manack was sixth (27:05), freshman Heather Jacobs was seventh (28:36) and freshman Tatum Blitch was 10th (30:48).
    The Gator guys took second in their meet behind the Top 10 finishes of senior Hunter Jacobs and junior Bailey Smith. Jacobs was fourth in the 46-runner field while Smith was eighth. Freshman Will Marsh was 12th, sophomore Christopher Williams was 13th and sophomore Chase Merrill was 14th. No times were available for the boys’ meet.
    In junior varsity girls’ action, Bulloch finished third. The top finisher for Bulloch was Mattie Wynn Hendrix, who took second place on the 1.6-mile loop with a 12:19. Hannah Dasher was fourth (12:45) in the 28-runner race.
    In JV boys’ action, Brett Thomas won the 30-runner race with a time of 10:57. Other Top 10 finishes were turned in by Kyle Samuels (sixth, 11:48), Aaron Feldman (ninth, 12:14) and Preston Nevil-Rincon (12:17). The Gator guys won the team event.
    In elementary action, Alec Brannen finished second (13:46) to lead the BA boys to victory. Colin Davis was third and Ben Dasher was fifth. Abby Hendrix won the girls’ race with a 13:23. Mary Claire Duggan was second, Samantha Joiner was third, Saylor Callaway was fourth and Brittney Potter was fifth.
