As the Bulloch Academy girls embark on a new season, a new leader is quickly emerging.
    Sophomore forward Anna Newton has scored 49 points in the Lady Gators’ first three games to lead the team in scoring as BA has come storming out of the gate.
    “I think that I was pretty lucky to get some playing time last season,” said Newton. “It prepared me for having a bigger role this season and got me comfortable with being out on the floor.”
    The lanky Newton has looked right at home so far. She has provided valuable offense inside and has yet to be held under 15 points in a game.
    Newton, as well as the rest of the Gators, have high hopes for this season.
    Last year, Bulloch caught fire at just the right time and, despite falling short in the region tournament, made a run all the way to the state championship game.
    Some of the talent from last year has moved on, but Newton remains confident that the pieces are still in place for another great season.
    “We have a lot of confidence,” said Newton. “We know it will take a lot of work to get back, but we also think that we have what it takes.”
