Athlete of the Week: Moore says no-no for PHS

When Megan Moore threw a one-hit shutout in a rivalry game against Emanuel County Institute in region action last week, it was as good as it gets.
Despite the Statesboro Lady Blue Devils getting a run across, Moore got the no hitter as Portal defeated SHS 9-1 in five innings Wednesday at Panther Field.
Moore struck out seven in the ECI win, and cranked it up to 10 against the Devils.
"She's the pitcher," said Portal coach Shannon Davis about her senior ace. "We have another girl that can pitch, but Megan's our girl. We've won three Region [3W-A] games this year, and Megan has pitched them all."
Moore and Davis are no strangers, and both have had a hand in the emergence of the Panthers as a Region 3-A threat.
As recently as 2006, Portal was winless in region play, but when Moore graduated to the high school level, so did Davis, who took over the varsity program Moore's freshman year.
Davis has coached Moore since the sixth grade.
The Panthers (4-3, 3-2) return to action today when they host Johnson County with the hopes of improving to 4-2 in region play.
