Devils drop title game
EVANS — Greenbrier beat Statesboro 11-3 Friday in the Region 3-AAAA baseball championship game.
The Blue Devils (13-12) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. Tony Hill hit a solo homer, then Scott Sarratt drove in Zach Taylor with a one-out single. The lead was short-lived.
The Wolfpack (21-6) scored once in the first, then tied the game in the second. The broke out with three in the third, two in th e fourth and three more in the fifth.
Statesboro will welcome Bainbridge or Americus-Sumter next Friday for a doubleheader started at 4 p.m. in the first round of the GHSA Class AAAA state playoffs.
Iduate named POTM
Georgia Southern’s Nina Iduate has been named the Southern Conference Softball Player of the Month for April, the league announced Friday.
The sophomore from Norcross, Ga. (Norcross HS) hit a team-high .490 last month with 11 runs batted in and a .536 on base percentage. She had eight multi-hit performances and two six-game hitting streaks.
Iduate paced the Eagles with 25 hits and batted .385 against league competition. She recorded at least a run, hit or RBI in all 17 games.
Iduate is the second straight GSU player to earn player of the month honors. Junior Robyne Siliga (Oceanside, Calif.) was the named the league’s player of the month for March.
GHSA track and field results
ALBANY — On Thursday, Screven County’s Casmeyona Austin finished in eighth place in the 1600-meter final at the GHSA track and field state championships with a time of 5:59.77.
In qualifying, Zandra Lake of Jenkins County ran the 100m hurdles in 17.96. Portal’s Jaleisa Coleman ran a 19.01.
Claxton’s 1600m relay team of Desi Holland, Jade Ball, Kris Johnson and Lacreasha Brewton ran a 4:23.40.
Ayana Walker of Jenkins County had the top time in the 300m hurdles with a 46.92. Ball of Claxton ran a 52.86.
The 400m relay team from JCHS — Keely Sapp, Lake, Andrea Pittman and Walker _ ran a 53.52. Claxton’s Holland, Brewton, Chambreail Wilkerson and Johnson ran a 52.40.
Johnson ran the 800m for CHS in 2:32.40.

Statesboro-Bulloch County Parks and Recreation is hosting the McDonald’s of Statesboro Mill Creek Shootout Tournament this weekend at Mill Creek Park.
The USSSA Youth Baseball Tournament featurs GRP 10-and-under Machine Pitch teams from around the state.
