Mikell changes her game

Statesboro point guard Victoria Mikell ranks among the Herald Leaders' top three in assists and steals.
When starting point guard Kittrella Mikell went down with an injury early in the year, Statesboro’s girls basketball team needed someone to step up.
That someone turned out to be Victoria Mikell (no relation to Kittrella), who went from looking for her shot at the two-guard position to running the team’s offense.
Midway through the season, it’s safe to say the switch is working out well.
“She’s done a remarkable job just getting thrown into it midstream,” said head coach Jeff Seier.
For proof, one needs to look no further than the Herald Leaders section, which shows the 5-foot-6 junior among the area’s top three in assists (2.7 per game) and steals (2.6).
“I really don’t look to score all that much because I have other teammates who can get the job done,” she said. “So I just let them do what I know they can do.”
Though Victoria admits she was nervous initially with the switch, she’s grown to love the position and hopes to remain at the point next season.
