Rain showers did not damper the fans' enthusiasm for the upcoming 2008 Georgia Southern football season. Saturday morning at Paulson Stadium 174 children signed up to participate in the second annual Little Eagles Camp.
Rain came near the end of camp as fans piled into Bishop Field House to Meet the Eagles, presented by Trapnell Dodge. According to director of sports marketing Brent Jones more than 2,000 football posters were handed out.
"The second annual Little Eagles Camp went better than expected with the rain that was scheduled in the forecast. We broke the attendance of last year's camp and you can definitely tell the excitement is building for the upcoming 2008 football season," said Jones.
Season tickets for the six home football games at Paulson Stadium are on sale. Fans can purchase tickets by calling 800-GSU-WINS. Football schedule posters can also be picked up at the sports marketing office inside Hanner Fieldhouse.
Captains announced
Georgia Southern head coach Chris Hatcher also announced the 2008 team captains on Saturday. The four seniors include: defensive back Chris Covington (Lawrenceville/Brookwood), offensive lineman Dio Herrera (Hollywood, FL/Hollywood Christian), wide receiver Raja Andrews (Swainsboro/Swainsboro) and defensive lineman Larry Beard (Fairburn/Sandy Creek).
GSU-UGA student tickets sold out
The allotment of tickets for Georgia Southern students to attend the Eagles’ football season-opener at Georgia quickly sold out Friday afternoon at Hanner Fieldhouse. Nearly 2,000 tickets went on sale for student purchase.
Students started lining up at 2 p.m. to purchase a maximum of two tickets for the 17th-ranked Eagles’ game against top-ranked Georgia.
“It’s been a great day. Students are excited about going up to Georgia to see the Eagles play. It’s been fun,” said Baker. “I give Brandy McNeal, our game operations director, a lot of credit of coming up with this plan with (Associate AD) Keith Roughton. The staff has jumped in and the students have done a great job of handling everything in line.
“We’ve had music on for them and the basketball team out there shooting... they’ve had air conditioning and stayed dry, that’s very important,” stated Baker.
