DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Dwayne Foreman scored 17 points and Louis Graham added 16 and 13 rebounds as Georgia Southern squeaked past UAB 59-57 at the Glenn Wilkes Classic Saturday.
The Blazers (2-2) led until 10:48 in the second half, when Eagles guard Trumaine Pearson hit a 3-pointer for a 43-41 lead. Georgia Southern (2-1) exchanged leads twice more, but Foreman and guard Willie Powers went 6-for-6 on free throws in the final two minutes to secure the win. Graham registered the games lone double-double, while Powers contributed 10 points on 3-of-6 shooting and a 3-pointer.
UAB forward Walter Sharpe had a game-high 20 points on 7 of 16 shooting, and guard Robert Vaden added 18 on 6-of-15 shooting and four 3-pointers. Both teams were plagued with poor shooting. The two both shot 30 percent from the paint for the game, but Georgia Southern went 19-of-63, while UAB went 18-of-59.
Georgia Southern also benefited from 22 points off 17 turnovers by the Blazers. UAB senior guard Paul Delaney scored just two points in the first before leaving the game in the second with an apparent left knee injury.
