Georgia Southern’s 2007 football schedule is likely to be officially released by the school later this week, athletic spokesman Pat Osterman said Tuesday.
Before being made public, the schedule must be approved by the University Athletic Committee at its meeting on Thursday.
West Georgia, Coastal Carolina and South Dakota State are expected to be three of GSU’s four non-conference matchups. The fourth game is rumored to be at Colorado State, but Rams officials would neither confirm nor deny the game until their ‘07 slate is released, which could be by the end of this week.
First-year Eagle coach Chris Hatcher said the Eagles will host West Georgia on September 8. The Eagles haven’t faced the Division II team since the Wolves (then Braves) snuck out of Paulson Stadium with a 15-14 win in 1994.
The Eagles will travel to Conway, S.C., to play Coastal Carolina the following Saturday, Sept. 15, according to a Chanticleer official. The schools met for the first time in Sept. 2006, when GSU picked up a 38-21 victory in Statesboro.
In other non-conference action, the Eagles will host South Dakota State on Oct. 6, a SDSU spokesman said. Georgia Southern, which defeated the Jackrabbits, 55-42, on the road last season, is scheduled to return to Brookings, S.D., again in 2009.
If Colorado State rounds out GSU’s non-conference slate, the Rams will be the Eagles first Football Bowl Subdivision (Division I-A) opponent since Southern opened the season at the University of Georgia in 2004.
As for Southern Conference games, the Eagles are scheduled to host Chattanooga, Western Carolina, The Citadel and Furman while traveling to Elon, Appalachian State and Wofford.
