Georgia Southern announced the hiring of Kelly Carter as the Eagles’ new cross country and track and field head coach on Thursday.
Carter replaces Marlo Mincey, who resigned effective June 30, after taking over the program in 2011.
Carter comes to Georgia Southern after three years as an assistant coach at Middle Tennessee State, working primarily with the Blue Raiders sprinters and hurdlers. His student-athletes recorded more than 60 individual personal bests during the 2013-14 indoor and outdoor seasons. Prior to joining the MTSU staff, he served for 11 years as the head coach of the men’s track and field program at Tennessee State.

GSU volleyball signs Dobbeck
Georgia Southern volleyball coach Dustin Wood announced Thursday that Erin Dobbeck has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Eagles, beginning in the 2014 season.
A 5-foot-8 setter, Dobbeck earned four letters for head coach Nate Ocasio at Central York High School in York, Pa. She was a four-time all-county selection and earned all-district and all-state accolades in 2013 and 2014. She played club volleyball for York Towne VBC and head coach Justin Miller.
Georgia Southern won the 2013 Southern Conference Tournament Championship and advanced to face Florida State in the NCAA Tournament, finishing with a 28-6 record, which tied the most wins in school history.
