SPARTANBURG, S.C. — The Southern Conference announced its Academic All-Conference team for the 2010 fall season Monday.
A total of 345 student-athletes, representing all 12 Southern Conference institutions, were named to the team.
The 345 student-athletes, which participated in football, volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer and men’s and women’s cross country recorded a 3.56 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
Eleven student-athletes have maintained perfect 4.0 cumulative GPAs, including Georgia Southern’s Moriah Bellissimo, Chattanooga’s David Moore and Christina Teter, The Citadel’s Shanna Couch, Elon’s Katelynn O’Dunne, UNCG’s Peyton Ford and Ashley Schnell, Western Carolina’s Carrie Minogue, Morgan Turner and Lindsay Carter and Wofford’s Rachel Woodlee.
To be eligible, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average entering the fall season and were required to compete in at least one-half of their team’s competitions during the recently-concluded fall campaign.
In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least 24 credit hours in the previous two semesters.
The women’s soccer programs supplied the greatest number of honorees with 85, followed by football and women’s cross country which each had 65 players qualify.
Among institutions, Elon had the highest number of academic all-conference team members with 42. Appalachian State (36), Chattanooga (35), The Citadel (33) and Wofford (31) also had at least 30 student-athletes honored as well.

BA sweeps first place
WAYNESBORO — Both Bulloch Academy junior varsity girls' and boys' basketball teams won the first-place trophies of the Edmund Burke Academy Middle School Christmas tournament over the weekend.
The Lady Gators ran their record to 8-0 en route to the title. On Friday, Ashley Burke scored 21 points to lead Bulloch to a 45-16 thrashing of Robert Toombs Christian Academy. Pate Lomax added 10 while both Page Spence and Cate Williams had six each. On Saturday, Bulloch whipped Thomas Jefferson Academy 34-17. Burke and Spence netted 13 points each while Lomax added five.
The Gator guys improved to 6-2. On Friday, BA pounded Robert Toombs 46-22. Smith Reeves scored 14, Will Marsh added 13, Will Rushing had eight and Lee Waters contributed six. On Saturday, Bulloch beat host Edmund Burke 48-38. Reeves led with 17, Marsh had 14 and Hunter Perry had six.
Both squads break for Christmas holidays and resume action on January 8 in Lyons against Robert Toombs Christian Academy.
Statesboro falls to Lanier
ALBANY — The Statesboro Blue Devils (6-2) fell 60-56 Monday to Lanier County in the Albany U-Save-It Classic.
Jaqawn Raymond led all scorers with 34 points. Reggie Owens added 10.
The Blue Devils return to tournament play today when they face Monroe at 5 p.m.
