Charles Kilpatrick is the epitome of hard work.
    The Screven County junior wrestler has come a long way since he went 2-11 as a freshman.
    Since then, Kilpatrick has left the SCHS football team to focus squarely on wrestling. The results have been phenomenal.
    “He’s an extremely hard worker — very dedicated,” said Screven’s wrestling coach Mike Ward. “He’s a real gritty kid. He comes to practice everyday to work and he’s very committed. And even though he’s a junior, he’s a proven leader.”
    In the 152-pound weight division, Kilpatrick (27-3) won the Fitzgerald Invitational and Shamrock Scuffle this season. His style may be comparable to the great Muhammed Ali’s ‘rope-a-dope.’
    “He doesn’t win a lot of matches by pins,” said Ward. “He wins a lot of matches by decisions. He doesn’t score a lot of points, but he forces guys to wrestle him for three rounds. By the third round, normally his opponent is tired. He’s an expert on escapes and he makes you work, tires you down and by the last minute — that’s where he finishes the deal.”
    Kilpatrick is the younger brother of UFC fighter Ken Shamrock, and ultimately hopes to move his career in that direction. His prper career has been greatly influenced by the help of Bryce Scott and Matthew Sheley, students at Georgia Southern.
    Screven will be at the Sweet Onion Invitational this weekend.

Addie Reddick 

    In the past five games, Bulloch Academy junior forward Addie Reddick has nailed 13 3-point baskets.
    On Jan. 24, she hit five from behind the 19-foot, nine-inch mark in a 38-28 win over Robert Toombs Christian Academy. On Jan. 29, she drilled five more as Bulloch whipped Memorial Day School 62-55.
    “Addie’s three-point percentage as of late has been outstanding,” said BA Lady Gator head coach Paul Webb. “She has created an outside offensive threat that our team has desperately needed all year.”
    “I always make sure that I stand on the free-throw line extended behind the three-point line,” explained Reddick. “I’m already set when I catch the ball and I just shoot.”
    In a 56-31 win over Frederica Academy on Feb. 2, Reddick popped three in the first quarter and had three more go in and kick out during the game.
    “That was kind of upsettting,” she added.
    Reddick is not just a shooter, though.
    “She is probably our most aggressive player from a defensive standpoint and always plays solid on defense,” said Webb. “She gives 100 percent in everything she does.”
    “As a forward, it’s kind of my job to go inside and rebound,” said Reddick. “I’m aggressive. It’s just my nature. That was kind of the way I was raised.”
