Last week, the Bulloch Academy girls rolled to a second straight state title in track and field, and senior Kelcie Jacobs was a one-woman wrecking crew in the process.

Jacobs participated in five events, taking individual titles in the 800, 1600 and 3200 meters while participating on the winning 4x400 relay team and helping the Lady Gators to a second place showing in the 4x100 relay.

“I think that the team put a lot of pressure on itself,” said Jacobs. “We knew that we wanted to repeat as champs, and we knew what it would take to do it. Everyone put in the work and both of our relay teams set season bests at state.”

Speaking of repeats, Jacobs was able to defend the individual state championship that she won in the 1600m last season. She blazed her way to a personal-best 5:38 to easily take another title and also set a personal record in the 800 and finished with her best time of the season in the 3200.

“Defending in the 1600 was a goal of mine all season,” said Jacobs. “I started the season well, and that gave me a lot of confidence. I went into state thinking about putting up some of my best times, but I never would have thought that I would improve on my times by so much.”
