PEMBROKE, Ga. -- Mr. Willie Carl Wright, age 71, passed into rest Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at the Candler Hospital, Savannah, Ga.
The Candler County native was the son of the late Linton and Annie Lois Wright Sr. He attended Lillian Street Elementary School and was a 1968 graduate of Metter High School, where he participated in track and many other sports. He especially had a love for baseball.
Willie C. Wright loved the work of construction. He had a passion for building and reading construction blueprints. He was the co-owner of Lawrence and Wright Construction. As a foreman, he would mentor young men in the trade of construction.
Willie was a member of the Sam’s Creek Baptist Church. He later united with the Bible Way Hibner Memorial Church of God in Christ in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, where he was an ordained deacon. He worked in many areas of the church and mentored the young deacons.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Betty Gail (Clarence) Booker.
He is survived by: his loving wife of 34 years, Mary M. Harvey Wright, Pembroke, Ga.; his children, Lee Wright and Missy Wright, both of Alexandria, Va.; Douglas (Avita) Johnson, Marcus Johnson and Jennifer (Warren) Walker, Ellabell, Ga.; siblings, Linton Wright Elkins, West Virginia; Alfred G. Wright, Statesboro, Ga.; and Evelyn Walden Perry, Orangeburg, S.C.; sisters-in-law, Annie Clay, Washington, D.C.; Carolyn (Theo) Lanier and Evelyn (Hezekiah) Campbell, both of Statesboro, Ga.; Bennie (Mildred) Harvey, Pittsburgh, Va.; and Rosalyn (William) Eason, Savannah, Ga.; two grandchildren, several nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
A public viewing for Mr. Willie C. Wright will be held Friday, January 29, 2021, at Hill’s Mortuary, Inc.
The graveside funeral service and burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 30, 2021, in the Sam’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Metter, GA, with the Rev. John Leggett officiating.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, social-distancing will be enforced at the funeral home and graveside services. We ask that you adhere to all CDC guidelines.
Final rites have been entrusted to Hill’s Mortuary, Inc.
