Marjorie T. Jones

Marjorie T. Jones, age 95, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at North Springs Assisted Living in Claxton.

She was born in Lyons on October 18, 1928, to Hilton Bronson and Thelma James Thigpen and was reared in Reidsville, where she graduated from Reidsville High School.

She had lived in several cities, making Statesboro home for most of her life before moving to Claxton four years ago.

She was a secretary, working for the FBI in Washington, D.C., and her last job was with Johnston and Brannen Law Firm in Statesboro.

Mrs. Jones enjoyed gardening and cooking. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Statesboro and was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Derrell Thigpen, Donald Thigpen and Mary Sue Scott.

She is survived by her sons, Kelvin Jones (Sharon) of Statesboro and Stephen (Susan) Jones of Athens; siblings, Kenneth Thigpen of Young Harris, Lawatha Malmberg of Lavonia, June Bonnett of Portal, Bobbie Knopp of Claxton and Wendelle Foster of Lavonia; grandchildren, Emily (Kenneth) Driggers, Ellen Marie Jones, Sadie Jones and Hillary (Chris) Thompson; great-grandson, Henry Thompson; several nieces and nephews.

The graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 29, 2024, at the Reidsville City Cemetery with Dr. Charles Jonas officiating.

The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the cemetery.

The family wants to send a special thank you to North Springs Assisted Living for taking such care of their mother.
