Dea. Bennie Hart Gordon Sr.
SYLVANIA, Ga. -- Deacon Bennie Hart Gordon Sr., age 98, entered into rest Monday June 28, 2021, at his residence.
    He was the son of the late Elisha and Pearl Gordon and received his formal education in the public school system of Screven County.
    Dea. Gordon served his country in the United States Army during World War II in Europe with Company A, 41st Signal BN from 1943 to 1945.
    On September 3, 1946, he united in holy matrimony to the late Elouise Kent Gordon. To this union, 14 children were born.
    In 1946, Dea. Gordon, his wife, Elouise, and family moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he then attended the Boc Trade School and received his certification in auto body mechanics and auto body. Afterwards, he established Gordon’s Auto Body in Bristol, Pa., in 1956.
    He and his wife later relocated to Sylvania, Ga., in the year of 1991.
    He leaves to cherish his memory: 11 children, Margaret (Hadi) Davis, Soderton, Pa.; Carolyn Gordon, Philadelphia, Pa.; Joyce Gordon-Graves, Aiken, S.C.; Calvin J. (Constance) Gordon, Newark, Del.; Elisha K. (Sylvia) Gordon, Levittown, Pa.; Stephanie (Steffen) Knight, Bluebell, Pa.; Pearl E. Gordon, Aiken, S.C.; Arnett Gordon, Philadelphia, Pa.; Maurice P. (Sharon) Gordon, Langhorne, Pa.; Eric D. Gordon, Philadelphia, Pa.; Tina M. Gordon Brookins, Sylvania, Ga.; 53 grandchildren, 107 great-grandchildren, 30 great-great-grandchildren, a sister, Pearl Gordon Burns, Statesboro, Ga.; a brother, Elisha Gordon, Sylvania, Ga.; a sister-in-law, Robbie Lou Burgest Gordon, Sylvania, Ga.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, church family and friends.
    In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three children, Thair Douglas Gordon, Evelyn V. Gordon Daniels and Bennie Hart Gordon Jr.; siblings, David Gordon, Douglas Gordon, Rufus Gordon, Reggie “RJ” Gordon, Hollis C. Gordon, Dennis Gordon, Charlie Gordon, Hollistene Gordon Rilington, Milkie Juanita Gordon Burns, Evelyn Gordon, Margaret Gordon and Little Virginia Maude Gordon.
    A walk-through visitation will be held for Dea. Bennie H. Gordon Sr. Friday, July 2, 2021, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the chapel of Hill’s Mortuary, Inc.
    Dea. Gordon will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral service. There will be no viewing after the eulogy.
    The funeral service for Dea. Gordon will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, July 3, 2021, at the St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church with the pastor, the Rev. Timotheus Mincey, officiating. Burial will follow, with military honors, in the church cemetery.
    Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, social-distancing will be enforced at the funeral home and graveside services. We ask that you adhere to all CDC guidelines.
    Final rites have been entrusted to Hill's Mortuary, Inc.
