Mr. Robert Sidney Olliff
STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mr. Robert Sidney Olliff, age 76, died at Ogeechee Area Hospice inpatient facility on September 19, 2018.
    The son of Charles P. Olliff Jr. and Priscilla Prather, Bob was born in Jacksonville, Fla. He graduated from Gordon Military Junior College in Barnesville, Ga., and in 1965 earned a degree in business administration, marketing and economics from the University of Georgia.
    Bob spent his productive career in sales and service. He worked as a sales representative for Albany Bearing Company in Albany, Ga.; Simmons Co. in Atlanta, Ga.; Gas Fired Products in Charlotte, N.C.; Banner Uniforms in Statesboro/Augusta, Ga.; and Morrison Chemical Co. in Savannah, Ga.; he was co-owner Donaldson-Ramsey, Inc., a retail store for men’s clothing in Statesboro, and in 1989 he became director of operations for The Jameson Company in Atlanta, Ga., and was a certified hotel administrator.
    Mr. Olliff was an active and giving member of his community. He served on the board of directors for the Statesboro-Bulloch County Chamber of Commerce, the Magnolia Midlands Travel Association, the Forest Heights Country Club and the Statesboro Rotary Club. He was a member of the selection committee for the Georgia Southern Jameson Inn Hospitality Scholarship, the administrative board for the First United Methodist Church and the Statesboro Downtown Development Authority. He was also an auxiliary member of the United States Coast Guard.
    Finally, he was regional vice president for the Georgia Hospitality and Travel Association and board of directors’ president for the Half Moon Condominium Owners’ Association on Colonels Island.
    He loved traveling throughout the USA with his wife in their motorhome and watching PGA games. He enjoyed spending time with his family and will always be remembered for his excellent cooking. He loved grilling, making homemade French fries for his grandchildren and was well-known for his low country boil.
    Bob was always interested in helping others and thinking about them in thoughtful ways. His family adored Bob for his kind heart and gentle soul.
    He was preceded in death by his mother, Priscilla Prather Olliff; father, Charles Preetorius Olliff; biological father, Robert Sidney Sharpe; and sister, Priscilla (Cissy) Olliff Mercer.
    Mr. Olliff is survived by his wife, Ginny Olliff; his sister, Mary McElveen of Charlotte, N.C.; his four daughters, Ashley Harvard (Gil) of Milton, Ga.; Sydney Filson of Saint Simons Island, Ga.; Whitney Kim (Baek) of Marietta, Ga.; and Beverly Filson (John) of Gainesville, Ga.; his stepson, Jonathan Stapleton (Renee) of Essex, Vt.; and his 16 grandchildren, Hayden Harvard, Emmie Harvard, Eby Harvard and Raines Harvard, all of Milton, Ga.; Chase Filson, Drew Filson and Hallie Filson, all of Saint Simons Island, Ga.; Harrison Mills and Raleigh Mills of Marietta, Ga.; and Ashley Filson, McKenna Filson, Millie Filson and Davison Filson, all of Gainesville, Ga.; Walker Stapleton, Emmerson Stapleton and Orion Stapleton, all of Essex, Vt.; and cousins, Bill Prather of Fitzgerald, Ga.; and Lisa Proctor of Statesboro.
    A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 23rd, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
    The funeral will be held on Monday, September 24th, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Bo Fordham officiating. Interment will follow in Eastside Cemetery.
    Pallbearers will be Robbie Franklin, Lehman Franklin, Jim Anderson, Walt Strickland, Gil Harvard, John Filson, Bobby Joe Cason and Jonathan Stapleton.
    Honorary pallbearers are Kenneth Chandler, Marshall Thigpen and Johnny Hill.
