STATESBORO, Ga. -- Donna Newton Mull, age 66, died Tuesday at Ogeechee Area Hospice inpatient facility after an extended illness.
She was a resident of Statesboro and had lived there most of her life. She was a member of the Statesboro Primitive Baptist Church, a graduate of Marvin Pittman High School and attended Swainsboro Technical College. She was active in Southern history and heritage movement and had served as executive director of the Order of Robert E. Lee and president of the Georgia Division, Order of Confederate Rose.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert L. and Mazie W. Newton.
She will be remembered for her love and compassion for her family, her friends and her animals.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Michael A. Mull of Statesboro; a daughter, Christy Mull of Statesboro; an uncle, Dent Newton of Brooklet; cousins, Roger Webb of Summerton, S.C.; Becky Newton Miller of Jacksonville, Fla.; Nancy Newton Thomas of Screven, Ga.; J.J. Newton Wiggins, Kimberly Newton and Bonnie Newton Cook, all of Statesboro; Faye Newton Nelson of Marshallville, Ga.; and several other cousins. In addition, she is survived by her sister-in-spirit and lifelong friend, Debra Beacham.
The family will receive visitors on Friday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Eastside Cemetery with Hu Daughtry and Darryl Drake officiating.
Active pallbearers will be Hu Daughtry, Deke Cox, Darryl Drake, Robert Black, Jody Wiggins and Roger Webb.
Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Harmon, Michael Sorrell, Tommy Palmer, Ron Armistead, Michel Turnage, the members of the Ogeechee Rifles Camp #941, Sons of Confederate Veterans and members of other Sons of Confederate Veterans camps.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Order of the Confederate Rose, c/o Marcelle Cail, president, 134 Mark Circle, Savannah, GA 31405; or to the Ogeechee Rifles Camp #941, 17 South Mulberry Street, Statesboro, Georgia 30458.
