A woman stabbed Saturday morning remains under hospital care in Savannah, while the woman accused of stabbing her remains in jail without bond.
Bulloch County sheriff's investigators aren't yet releasing the name of the 26-year-old victim, who is expected to recover from arterial bleeding and a collapsed lung, said Sheriff Lynn Anderson. April Mikell, of Dry Branch Village, is charged with aggravated battery after being identified as the person who stabbed the victim during a domestic disturbance, he said.
Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to Dry Branch Village off Cypress Lake Road around 1:24 a.m. Saturday in response to a call about an assault with a knife. They found the victim "lying on the floor, unresponsive, with a stab wound to the head," Anderson said.
The victim, who was bleeding profusely, was taken by Bulloch County EMS to East Georgia Regional Medical Center, then transported to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, he said.
Mikell, 30, was arrested after sheriff's Investigator John Quattlebaum interviewed witnesses and identified her as the assailant. Incident reports stated that the stabbing occurred in the presence of the offender's children and that Mikell and the children had left the residence through the back door when deputies arrived. Mikell was later located and arrested.
Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to contact Quattlebaum at (912) 764-1785 or to submit an anonymous tip to tips@bullochsheriff.com.
