The new Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market will open Wednesday, Dec. 17, following a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m.
The new store is located at 349 Brampton Ave. and will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The store promises to provide Statesboro residents with low prices on a variety of merchandise, including fresh produce and meats, frozen foods, groceries, pharmacy and fuel.
Customers can shop additional items including top holiday toys, gifts, electronics and home decor on Walmart.com through Site to Store, which will offer free shipping to the Statesboro Neighborhood Market, according to a Wal-Mart news release issued Wednesday afternoon.
They can also use Wal-Mart's new Savings Catcher receipt comparison tool to feel more confident they are getting some of the best deals available in the area. Savings Catcher looks at other top retailers' local ads and gives customers an eGift card for the difference if a competitor's offering is lower than the price they paid at Wal-Mart. Savings Catcher is available through the free Wal-Mart mobile app.
"Wal-Mart is excited to be a part of the Statesboro community just in time for the holiday season," store manager Steven Reid said in the release. "Growing up in nearby Screven County and attending Georgia Southern University, I am especially looking forward to offering such a convenient shopping option to the area."
The new store is approximately 41,000 square feet. In addition to groceries, the store features health and beauty aids, pet products and cleaning supplies.
The drive-through pharmacy offers a full range of products and services and pharmacy team members are ready to assist customers with product and prescription questions. Statesboro residents can easily transfer prescriptions and order refills on the go with the Wal-Mart mobile app for iPhone and Android.
Holiday shopping is more convenient as Statesboro residents can shop an assortment of 7 million items on Walmart.com, many of which can be shipped for free to the new Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market.
The new store employs up to 95 full- and part-time associates. Reid began his Wal-Mart career in 1995 as a second-shift electronics associate.
"Wal-Mart has been a strong corporate citizen in our community for the last several decades," Statesboro Mayor Jan Moore said in the release. "Its retail store and distribution warehouse facilities provide hundreds of very important jobs to our community. We appreciate the continued investment that Wal-Mart is making in Statesboro and Bulloch County."
The grand-opening celebration will include presentations of grants from Wal-Mart and the Wal-Mart Foundation to local community groups.
And on Saturday, Dec. 20, the new Neighborhood Market will host "A Big Family Welcome" from noon to 3 p.m. The event will give customers the chance to meet Reid and take part in family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples.
