While most kids this time of year are making a Christmas list of a host of toys or clothing, these children and teenagers just want one thing: a forever home.
Almost 9,000 kids in Georgia are currently in foster care. Of that large number, around 250 children across the state of Georgia are post-TPR (Termination of Parental Rights), making them eligible for adoption and are waiting for a forever family. Eight Bulloch County children wait and dream.
Many of the children have been in foster care for more than five years. A large percentage of the kids have changed foster homes yearly. Many are separated from a twin or other sibling.
The Heart Gallery of Georgia, a traveling photojournalistic and audio exhibit featuring some of Georgia's foster care children who are eligible for adoption, will be on display from 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Sea Island Bank Main Street location during the Business After Hours event.
Additional photographs will be on display at the Averitt Center for the Arts.
These are photos of beautiful children who simply want a loving family and a permanent home.
One of them, Lee, said, "I want a family that can provide for me, someone that can be a good person."
And Jalique said, "I want a family that likes music and likes sports."
Sierra quietly said, "I just want a family who is happy." With the same smile and hope evidenced on most of the photographs, Sierra added, "I know that one of these days, I'll get adopted."
If you attend the gallery event Thursday, you will find out more about Georgia's children who dream of a family of their own.
