Tractor-trailer wreck shuts down I-16 West

The shell of a tractor-trailer is lifted off the Interstate 16 West road after a wreck Wednesday morning that shut down I-16 westbound lanes. No one was injured in the wreck.

After an accident that occurred just before 8 a.m. Wednesday morning, traffic on Interstate 16 West was detoured between exits 111 and 116. The lanes were still closed as of 10:30 a.m. and were expected to remain shut down while investigators look into the cause of the crash and crews work to clear the scene.

According to officials, a tractor-trailer was parked in the shoulder area off I-16 West at about mile marker 14. Another truck traveling west drifted and struck the parked truck causing both to burst into flames. Officials said both drivers escaped with no injuries.

The Bulloch County Sheriff's Office and the Candler County Sheriff’s Office both responded to the scene responded to the crash and is being assisted by the Candler County Sheriff's Office.
