After a four-hour hunt Thursday, law enforcement officers captured a man wanted on outstanding warrants.
Keith Spells, 26, of Harvey Wilson Road in Portal, fled from Bulloch County sheriff's deputies and U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force agents after they tracked him down at his home, said Bulloch County sheriff's Capt. Todd Hutchens.
The U.S. Marshals Service, along with Bulloch County sheriff's investigators, were tipped off that Spells was at his home. He was wanted on outstanding warrants from the Brooklet Police Department for aggravated assault, he said.
After Spells ran, deputies called Bulloch County sheriff's K9 handler Ryan Norton, as well as Brian Kent, a helicopter pilot who often assists local law enforcement agencies in seeking fugitives.
After deputies and others searched for hours in nearby fields and woodlands, Spells was sighted in a field with irrigation pivots and continued to flee. Within a short time after he was sighted, he was captured just "a couple of miles from his home," Hutchens said.
Spells, already charged with aggravated assault, now faces an additional charge of obstruction. Other charges maybe pending, he said.
Spells was taken to the Bulloch County Jail Thursday evening, where he will be held awaiting a bond hearing and other court procedures, according to jail records.
